NEW MISSION

The museum has a new name.

Omniplex was established in 1958 as the Oklahoma Science and Arts Foundation with a mission to improve the cultural and educational standards of Oklahoma City. Over the years the museum's mission has continued to evolve and the focus has sharpened, emphasizing science and technology. In 2004, at the completion of a community wide strategic planning initiative, the museum's board of trustees adopted a new mission statement. This new mission was designed to guide exhibit and program development well into the new century, and grow the museum into a statewide science museum of national prominence.

We Enrich People's Lives by Revealing the Wonder and Relevance of Science

With the clarity of this new mission, and the community feedback received through strategic planning, it became clear that a new name for the institution also was needed to more clearly communicate what we do and whom we serve. Consequently, the board of trustees officially adopted a new name for Omniplex; Science Museum Oklahoma.
