Calling all K-12 educators, artists and makers! Looking to connect, share and learn about ideas and resources that will help you better teach STEAM? On June 4, from 6-9 p.m., and June 5, from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Science Museum Oklahoma is hosting Convening of Makers and Educators, an activity showcase that will give attendees the opportunity to learn, interact, network and get actual hands-on in-person experience working with artists, makers and other educators from around the state. Light refreshments will be provided Friday night and a boxed lunch on Saturday. This event is sponsored by Oklahoma EPSCoR.

“We know that it’s been a difficult year for educators and wanted to do something special. By bringing together educators, artists and makers we know this community will spark creativity and innovation as they look to the new school year,” says Greg Miller, Science Museum Oklahoma director of education and training. “It is our goal that sharing ideas, learning new skills and building a diverse network of potential collaborators will help bring about a renewed excitement of teaching STEAM.”

This two-day event kicks off Friday evening with a reception encouraging attendees to bring completed or in-progress projects to show and discuss with others. Informal by design, the evening will provide a platform for makers and artists to share techniques, innovations, new media and craft processes. Tables will be provided.

Saturday’s activities start at 9 a.m. with a keynote speech, followed by more than 10 breakout sessions, with topics ranging from 3D printing, creating makerspaces, participating in open-ended STEAM activities, project design, skill-sharing and more. An itinerary can be found at www.sciencemuseumok.org/convening.

Through the generous support of Oklahoma EPSCoR there is no charge for this event, but attendance is limited so advanced registration is required. In order to give attendees the best learning environment, this event will be for adults only. Science Museum Oklahoma is located at 2020 Remington Place in Oklahoma City. More information and registration can be found at www.sciencemuseumok.org/convening.
