It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's Venus! It's the time of the year that Venus is at its brightest and it will be unmistakable this week in the western sky. It's also the time of the year when we can see the most galaxies in the sky at the same time — so let's take a look at one of them!
This week in The Real Sky, Kirkpatrick Planetarium Director Tom Arnold takes us to M51, the Whirlpool Galaxy — 23,000,000 light years away! Through an hours-long exposure Tom created a color image of the galaxy using one of his home telescopes. See the image and learn more about M51:
