Beloved Art Exhibition Closes August 3
The curtain is about to close on one of Science Museum Oklahoma’s most beloved art exhibitions. Out of the Toy Box: The Toy Photography of Mitchel Wu will conclude its run in the museum’s smART Space gallery on Sunday, August 3.
Since opening, the exhibition has delighted visitors of all ages with its blend of nostalgia, artistry, and storytelling. Featuring 55 of Mitchel Wu’s favorite photographs, Out of the Toy Box showcases familiar toy characters placed in playful, imaginative scenarios. Alongside the photographs, guests can explore a selection of hand-built dioramas, behind-the-scenes videos, and handwritten notes that reveal the creative process behind each shot.
“Mitchel Wu’s work has been a favorite for science and art lovers alike,” said Sherry Marshall, John E. Kirkpatrick CEO of Science Museum Oklahoma. “The exhibition captures the wonder of childhood while highlighting the incredible creativity and craftsmanship that brings each scene to life.”
The smART Space galleries at Science Museum Oklahoma are unique with two galleries that rotate exhibitions annually. Guests can look forward to new experiences each year where science and art collide in unexpected and engaging ways. A new exhibition will debut in September, continuing the museum’s tradition of showcasing boundary-pushing work that sparks curiosity.
Guests can still stop by to check out POV: Perspectives in Anamorphic Art currently in the other smART Space gallery.
Mitchel Wu famously uses many Schleich brand toys in a portion of his work. Science Museum Oklahoma’s Science Shop will remain a flagship store for the quality toy brand.
Out of the Toy Box is included with general admission. For hours and ticket information, visit sciencemuseumok.org.
