Women in STEAM Conference at Science Museum Oklahoma

Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators, Scientists, and Leaders

Science Museum Oklahoma and the Women’s Energy Network of Greater Oklahoma invite educators and their students to a powerful day of inspiration, exploration, and hands-on learning at the annual Women in STEAM Conference.

A Day of Discovery and Possibility

Each year, more than 1,500 students and educators from across Oklahoma come together at Science Museum Oklahoma for this free, one-day event. Educators register students for this special event which was created to spotlight opportunities for young women in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math, the conference immerses students in:

  • Interactive hands-on activities that spark curiosity
  • STEAM-focused exhibits and booths hosted by Oklahoma universities, colleges, and organizations
  • Candid conversations during a career panel featuring women in engineering, architecture, geoscience, meteorology, and more
  • Full museum access including exhibits and live science shows

To attend, educators must register students below. Please note space is limited.

The Women in STEAM Conference is an ideal opportunity for middle and high school educators looking to introduce students to real-world applications of STEAM careers. All programming aligns with educational standards and encourages critical thinking, collaboration, and engagement.

2025 Women in STEAM Panelists

Miranda Cruttenden

Senior Manager- Client Account Lead
Miranda is a Chemical Engineer with over 14 years of experience in Water Treatment, Water Logistics, and Chemical Applications in the Water Technology Industry. She has several years of experience in Project Management, both on the Vendor side, as well as consulting. She now works with Accenture clients on capital projects, particularly in the technology space, to reduce operation and maintenance costs, and drive innovation platforms to ensure mutually beneficial results within the Utility and Public Service sectors.
Secretary Deborah Moorad

Secretary of Commerce, State of Oklahoma | Business & Technology Strategist

Deborah Moorad serves as Oklahoma’s Secretary of Commerce, leveraging her expertise in business strategy and technology to drive growth and attract new ventures to the state. With extensive experience scaling innovative companies and navigating high-value acquisitions, she brings a unique set of strategic skills that will help strengthen Oklahoma’s economic landscape.

Moorad has an enthusiasm and eye for detail that brings life to her work. Moorad’s career exemplifies success with notable transactions in the biotechnology space. Her passion and drive are inspired by the love for her community and contributing to areas that make a difference.

Beyond science, Moorad is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of leaders in business and science.

Courtney Griffin, Ph.D.

Vice President of Research and Professor; Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation
Courtney Griffin was raised in Athens, GA. She earned her B.A. in Biology at Harvard, her Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences at the University of California San Francisco, and postdoctoral training in Genetics at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. In 2008 she launched her own lab at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) studying blood vessel development and maintenance in health and disease. Courtney is now a Professor in the Cardiovascular Biology Research Program and Vice President of Research at OMRF. Outside of work she enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband Tim and catching up with her identical twin daughters who recently graduated from college.
Dr. Melissa Reed

Post Doctoral Instructor in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at Oklahoma State University
Dr. Melissa Reed is proud citizen of the Cherokee Nation and a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at Oklahoma State University, where she teaches and mentors students. She earned her Ph.D. in Entomology from OSU, focusing on the ecological impacts of culverts and dams on aquatic macroinvertebrates in Oklahoma streams. With a strong background in aquatic entomology, Dr. Reed is passionate about field-based research and inclusive STEM education, particularly supporting Native American students through programs like NATIVES and Paths to Provide. Outside the lab, she enjoys coaching OSU’s Entomology Games Trivia Team and serving as an advisor for the Sanborn Entomology Club and the OSU student chapter of AISES.
Lehne George

Geologist/Investor Relations
Lehne George is a geologist with deep subsurface expertise across key U.S. basins, including the Haynesville, Mid-Continent, Powder River, and Appalachia. She began her career at Chesapeake Energy in 2010 and most recently served as Geoscience Manager for Expand Energy’s Northeast Appalachia Business Unit. Currently, she is expanding her skill set through a strategic rotation in Investor Relations at Expand Energy, the company formed by the merger of Chesapeake and Southwestern Energy in 2024. Lehne serves on the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma and is committed to continuous learning through executive education and leadership development. Lehne holds a bachelor’s degree in Earth and Environmental Sciences from Furman University and a master’s in Geology from the University of Kentucky. She has been married to Drew for 13 years and has three children, ages 11, 10 and 7. Lehne is a huge proponent of Women in STEAM and loves any opportunity to expose girls to the amazing world of science!
