A Genre-Jumping, Adults-Only Night of Music, Science, and Nostalgia
Science Museum Oklahoma invites guests ages 21 and up to crank up the volume at SMO21+: FM Radio, a high-energy evening of hits, radio favorites, and hands-on science on August 23, 2025 from 7 to 10pm.
From the twang of country to the energy of pop and the edge of metal, each corner of the museum will pulse with a different musical mood. Guests can dress for their favorite genre, and explore playful science activities inspired by rhythm, sound, and the art of performance, and sip cocktails.
Highlights include:
- Musical Match Making, where teams decode how animals use rhythm and pitch—like nature’s own DJs.
- Sound Oscilloscopes, showing voices and beats as real-time waveforms.
- Chladni Plates and Oobleck Speakers, revealing how music moves matter.
- Beat Frequency and Interference, experimenting with how sound waves blend or clash.
- Piezoelectricity, exploring how vibrations become electricity in mics and instruments.
A special challenge featured just for these events is the Secret Room, which has a hidden surprise only discoverable during the event. Costumes and creative outfits inspired by your favorite radio genre or music icon are encouraged.
“SMO21+: FM Radio is an exploration of the soundtracks that define us” said Sherry Marshall, John E. Kirkpatrick CEO at Science Museum Oklahoma. “It’s nostalgic, curious, and a chance to dance, explore, and experience science in an unexpected way.”
VIP tickets include early entry at 6:30 p.m., access to the VIP lounge, a complimentary signature cocktail, and discounts on drink refills. General admission begins at 7 p.m. Food, alcoholic, and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.
