Since its inception in 1958, SMO has been a beacon of science education, captivating Oklahomans and visitors alike with its interactive exhibits, discovery-based activities, astronomy shows, Science Live demonstrations, educational outreach efforts and special events.

In 2023, SMO broke attendance records with over 6 million visitors, solidifying its status as a beloved institution within the community. This year, should be an even more exciting year with its latest addition set to open this fall: a state-of-the-art planetarium.
