The museum is launching Teen Science Café, a new series of free STEAM workshops created specifically for teens.

The first Café is Case Closed on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.. The event puts forensic science into action. Participants will examine evidence, test theories, and work together to solve a fictional case with the help of an expert.

Additionally, for Case Closed, Rashi Shukla, Ph.D., professor of criminal justice at the University of Central Oklahoma, will help participants explore the science behind forensic investigations. Teens will be using chromatography, fingerprint analysis, blood type analysis, and spatter analysis, to collect clues. The clues will be used as evidence to determine “whodunnit” and close the case.

Furthermore, Teen Science Cafés bring teens and STEAM professionals together to explore a different field through conversation and hands-on activities. Each Café is led by Science Museum Oklahoma’s second-year Teen Apprentices, called Ambassadors, with guidance from the guest expert. This gives teens a chance to learn from both professionals and their peers.

“Events like these give young people a space to dive into science on their own terms and connect with other teens to discover what interests them,” said Heather Johnston, Vice President of Programs and Education at Science Museum Oklahoma. “Teen Science Cafés will help build new skills for the future class of scientists and problem-solvers among us.”

Teen Science Café is part of Science Museum Oklahoma’s growing list of programs created specifically for teens, including its year-long Teen Apprentice Program. Support from the NBA Foundation is helping the museum’s Teen Apprentice Program to expand opportunities for Oklahoma City teens through hands-on STEAM experiences, leadership development, and career readiness.

Lastly, each Teen Science Café is free with pre-registration and includes museum admission, lunch, and participation in the workshop. Pre-register at sciencemuseumok.org/teenevents as space is limited.
