Space Day

We're Counting Down the Days...

May 7 - 8, 2021

On Space Day, blast off into a world of flight, robotics and space exploration! This action-packed celebration is all about the science of space with special hands-on activities and live demonstrations, plus the museum's permanent exhibits with NASA artifacts, interactive simulators and more. This year we're doubling the fun and extending "Space Day" to a full two days! We expect these days to sell out, so reserve your tickets in advance to guarantee your spot at the coolest celebration in the galaxy!

Space Day is made possible by Allied Arts.

Space Day Activities

Mars Rover (Tech)
Using an iPad, remotely control a spherical robot across a Mars landscape.

Reaction Rockets (Chemistry)
Participants will learn how materials interact, behave, and change by making their Alka-Seltzer “rockets” launch into the air.

Egg Drop: Capsule Design Challenge (Engineering)
A variation of the egg drop challenge. Guests design and build a capsule for an “eggstronaut” that can withstand a drop from the second floor with the help of SMO’s very own sky crane.

Nebula Spin Art (Art, Early Childhood table – not available to all guests)
Using a salad spinner and drops of paint, Children can create a nebula as unique as the real thing.

Mission Patch Design (Art)
Guests can design personal mission patches that represent their crew and its goals for a future moon mission.

Joining us as our special guests this year, our new community partners - OU Pick & Hammer Geology Club: Impact Craters
Children will experiment with dropping various size “meteorites” to see what kind of craters they can make.
